The Moore Code I use in Teaching
Be Respectful, Be Proactive, Have Integrity
Be Persistent, Participate, Be Responsible

TO BE RESPECTFUL means to put a high level of value on everybody and everything around you. Through your actions, you put importance on others’ opinions, heritage, culture, family, personal possessions, and right to learn in a safe, quiet, and orderly school. Being respectful also means talking to students and school staff in a positive tone of voice. Following the directions of MR. MOORE AND BRITTON staff and caring for all MR. MOORE AND BRITTON property shows that you are a respectful person. Finally, show others that you value yourself and your possessions at all times.

TO BE PROACTIVE means to take the steps now to secure your success in whatever field or activity you choose for your life. Planning and prioritizing your homework, in-school activities, time with friends, chores at home, employment hours, video games and television, and getting enough sleep are good ways to ensure success in all parts of your life. Using your Student Planner makes planning easy. After a short time, predicting problems, planning, minimizing absences, and setting goals become natural.

TO HAVE INTEGRITY is defined as how you act when no one is watching. It is living up to all the promises made to yourself and others. Showing integrity means turning in misplaced items into the Lost and Found and doing your own work. Integrity is an essential component for good character. When you act with integrity, you will be trustworthy, reliable, and responsible.

TO HAVE PERSISTENCE means never give up when faced with challenges in and out of school. Showing persistence means working through hardships by concentrating, getting advice from others, trying repeatedly and finishing what you started. Being persistent is also shown by people who are doing the right thing in the face of pressure to postpone responsibilities or to do their work later. When you persist, you get the job done, you feel great about yourself, and you reap the rewards that come with achievement.

TO PARTICIPATE means to fulfill your duty as a responsible citizen. All thriving societies depend on citizens to study the issues and vote when legal, volunteer in their community and at school events, and to foster the best in others by working together. When you participate, you and everybody around you benefit from synergy, which means the end product is greater than the sum of the efforts of each team member.

TO BE RESPONSIBLE means to incorporate all five parts of THE MOORE CODE into your daily life; you care about yourself, and it’s visible through your actions. You will be able to guide yourself without supervision, because you are accountable. A responsible person has integrity and is dependable, respectful, proactive, persistent, and a participant.
